Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is
the primary system taught at our Academy.
Pekiti-Tirsia is one of the most highly efficient and
sophisticated weapon and empty-hands systems of martial
arts known to man. The OMAA method of teaching Pekiti-Tirsia
Kali encompasses · edged weapons · impact
weapons · empty hand combat . gun retention &
gun transition. It is a ‘BLADE FIGHTING SYSTEM’.
“When it comes to
strategic knife defenses, Pekiti Tirsia Kali is
one of the most progressive, useful, and sophisticated
systems I have ever encountered”.
Guro Dan Inosanto
Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is known as a ‘close quarter’
combat system. It is an in-fighting combat system against
multiple opponents based on the use of the Blade. Pekiti-Tirsia
Kali has been chosen as the exclusive combat system
to the elite Force-Recon Philippine Marine Battalion,
Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Wing Chun Kung Fu
Wing Chun, also spelled Wing
Tsun is a Chinese system of kung fu that specializes
in controlling the center line (referring to an imaginary
line drawn down the center of your body. This line should
face the point of the attacking limb or attacker’s
body.). A Wing Chun punch travels the center line, guarding
your body’s center during a strike. In Wing Chun
a defense can be turned into an attack immediately,
sometimes simultaneously. Using the center line principal
you can deliver a faster more direct explosive punch.
When controlling the center your opponent must strike
in an arch, giving you the advantage of striking the
opponent before he can hit you, as you have the shorter
distance for the punch to travel.
Why does our school incorporate Wing Chun
into our system?
Wing Chun relies on developing leverage
and sensitivity rather than muscular strength to overcome
an opponent. The Wing Chun drills such as Chi Sao (Sticky
Hands), Trapping Hands, and Wooden Dummy Training, develops
a quick reflex speed and coordination and power to enable
someone to quickly and effortlessly overcome a larger
and stronger attacker without relying on size or strength.
If Wing Chun is so great then why don’t
we just train Wing Chun?
All martial art systems have their
good points and bad points. No one system can have it
all. This has been well proven in today’s mixed
martial art events such as the UFC’s Octagon,
or the K 1 Rumble. Even the United States Army has restructured
its new Hand to Hand Combat program which now has a
strong mix of Filipino Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-
Jitsu.
Grappling
The
grappling taught at Ocean Martial Arts Academy is a
combination of different arts, all of which emphasize
ground work. You will train in body positioning. You
will learn defense against ordinary chokes, grabs, submissions,
locks, and study ground mobility. Some of the grappling
arts that are used in the grappling curriculum are Brazilian
Jiu- Jitsu, Filipino Dumog (ground-fighting), and Silat.
The student will train various take
downs and throwing techniques to gain a superior position
on your opponent. Ground fighting is also taught with
the philosophy of when to take the fight to the ground
and when to try to avoid going to the ground. Unlike
the study of sport Jiu-Jitsu, in the study of Filipino
Ground Fighting very little time is spent rolling on
the ground due to the prevalence of knives in the Philippines.
When studying Filipino Dumog
you will learn to ground fight with the blade, gun,
and the baston (stick). Once a weapon is introduced
into the scenario the one
who controls the weapon will win.
Therefore, weapon retention and the ability to reach
your weapon on your body is vital to your training and
survival should it ever be tested.
